How long before that $1.99 / gal. gasoline goes away?

Oil prices could climb well beyond Friday’s 7% spike, with Wall Street analysts warning the commodity could top $90 a barrel if the Israel-Iran conflict broadens dramatically.

On Friday, West Texas Intermediate futures (CL=F) and international benchmark Brent crude (BZ=F) settled at $72.98 and $74.23 per barrel, respectively. Both pared overnight gains that saw prices spike more than 13%.

It hasn’t been $1.99 here in decades, but this is Northern Calif…

I just topped up at the local Costco, $4.599, where the Standard, Shell, etc. are mostly $5.19… Don’t expect it top drop in the near term, or as far out as I can imagine… We bought a RAV4 Hybrid, so it’s of little consequence, retired, no daily commute, even long trips would be OK, if we were of the mind to wander… My F150, on the other hand, its 38 gallon tank gives me pause, but its seldom driven, so its 10 mpg don’t matter, either, for now…

How low did it get there in the spring of 2020? We saw $1.78 in Wisconsin.

The $1.99 was based on this.

Just more fantasies, like so many we see, hear, daily… I’ve tracked my mileage since 2009, none fell below $2/gallon, a few fillups were below $3, very few…

Filled up at Kroger yesterday for $1.84. But 0.80 was Kroger fuel points/reward so really $2.62. That is down about 0.20 over the past 2 weeks. East TN, FWIW.

lowest price here is $3.58. But this is a tourist town and they gouge everyone. The next town over it is always cheaper.

So…$2.64? Sounds like you’re living in an area that has lower than average gas prices.

If you look at the national average, gas prices have gone UP over the last 6 months.

Compared to national average, yes. There is another gas station about 10 minutes down the road that was selling for $2.47. It is outside of our normal movement pattern so not worth the hassle to go there just to fill up.

On our recent trip to New Zealand we were paying over $6 a gallon for gas.

From last summer:

New Zealand to push through law to reverse ban on oil and gas exploration

New Zealand said on Monday it would pass laws by the end of this year to reverse a ban on offshore oil and gas exploration, and take urgent steps to remove regulatory hurdles to import liquefied natural gas (LNG) amid energy shortages.
