“What they found was that people with better mental well-being also tended to be healthier as the years went on…”

So, be happy and eat cheese (and, IIRC, olive oil).

Rather flies in the face of the cholesterol catastrophizers and all the studies that “say” and that settled science.

From the article: But a surprise finding was that those who reported the best mental health and stress resilience, which boosted well-being, also seemed to eat more cheese.

Ate more cheese that what? Or whom? Is this scale nominal? If so what is the minimum amount of cheese necessary? If it’s comparative, how much more than NO cheese per day is needed? And compared to someone who eats, say, 2 pounds of cheese per day, would eating only 1.98 pounds cause unhappy aging compared to the 2 pounder guy? Or would they have similarly happy aging?

If someone ate 2 pounds a day and died of hypercholesterolemia at age 50 but was somewhat more happy than the 98 year old guy who ate somewhat less cheese and had low cholesterol, would he qualify as a “winner” implied by the study and would the 98 year old be considered a loser for being somewhat less happy?

To be happy, smile and say ‘cheese’ – then dig in…

I don’t know. Did eating cheese cause better mental health or did just having good mental health cause a craving for cheese? And did you know a tblsp of Olive oil has 100% more saturated fat than an egg?

Socioeconomic status positively correlates with longevity. As a guess, cheese is expensive, so poor people eat less of it. The cheese itself probably doesn’t contribute.

Dat’s a-what ahm-a say. It’s more surrogate data. It can be very helpful. Or not. It depends. Number one way to prevent crime and have a crime free society: Incarcerate everybody who uses the bathroom at least once a day. It correlates 100% with people who commit crimes.
