The I-Bond fixed rate resets on May 1. The new fixed rate for I-Bonds issued between May 1, 2024 and the next reset date (November 1) will be unchanged at 1.3%. This is added to the inflation rate to get the yield on the bond.

The TIPS yield is higher.
I-Bond interest is tax-deferred. TIPS interest is paid currently.
I-Bond principal is protected regardless of prevailing interest rates. TIPS principal will drop if sold before maturity when interest rates are higher than they were when purchased.
