$TSLA, $BYDDF & $BRK/B investors all need to read this very well researched long-form IBD article by Ed Carson, who resoundingly chooses $BYDDF over $TSLA shares:

1) IBD on $TSLA falloff in China:
"Meanwhile, Tesla Shanghai production in April plunged to 10,757 vehicles, according to industry data released May 10. Tesla delivered just 1,512 vehicles, a sliver vs. 65,814 in March. There were no exports last month. "

Both recently reported record deliveries and have huge expansion plans. Tesla Berlin and now Tesla Austin are starting deliveries. BYD is opening multiple plants this year, launching several new models and expanding into new export markets.
Tesla earnings surged 246% in the first quarter vs. a year earlier, the company reported April 20. BYD reported 241% earnings growth in Q1 on April 27.
But while they are the two largest EV makers, their models haven’t competed much head-to-head. That’s about to change, as the BYD Seal is set to take on the Tesla Model 3.

I don’t think production falloff is an important factor, because it’s temporary and the daily infected cases have been reduced from a few thousands two months ago to a few dozens today. Less than 5% of the Shanghai population is under quarantine and most businesses have already recovered normally. The long-term challenge to Tesla is the classical problem: stiff competition from other EV manufacturers. Tesla is selling each car at thousands of dollars more than others and it’s not certain how long that will last.

Tesla? BYD?
Nah, this is the EV I want.
The Nobe 100 GT.

Looks like the company is a bit fly-by-night, if it exists at all, and the boss might conceivably be a crook.
But I still want one.
Absolutely zero competition in the 3-wheel-drive market!

But if it had to be something assembled in China, I’d pick the Hongguang Mini Cabrio.
(cabrio version not yet released, you can google it for images.
The hard top version is the #1 selling EV in China, and the cheapest in Europe at 13000 euros including tax )

This is factually untrue and kind of an argument used against Apple for a decade.
Remember cheap Chinese $10 mobile phones coming argument ?

Nah. Practical perhaps, not nearly cute enough!
I’m a sucker for a pretty (automotive) face.
If I can’t get the Nobe 100, maybe a Microlino? https://microlino-car.com/en/microlino
(basically a modern electric BMW Isetta homage)
Unlike most vaporware prototype car announcements, it appears they have hired a real production engineer and built a real production line.
They are gearing up to produce something 3 per hour by the end of the year.
Which, for something like this, is a pretty major accomplishment.
Nobe, if I’m not mistaken, has so far built one sculpture in the shape of a car.
There was a fire at their facility destroying the other prototypes. Unfortunate. And alas some dark rumours that the fire was timely.
