I’ve travelled through Dongguan, the major Chinese manufacturing hub, and came across this video of the area, in its present sorry state. At about 19.30 minutes in there is a lady giving and interesting and alternative view on the Chinese economy - its never quite been the powerhouse some in The West thought it was apparently:
