The Labor Department’s June JOLTS (Job Openings and Labor Turnover Survey) showed job openings dropped to their lowest in three months. Employers posted 7.36 million vacancies, down from 7.54 million in May as hiring rose, with employers filling 5.35 million jobs, up from 5.25 million. Openings rose most at warehouse, transportation, and utility companies and fell at wholesalers and at manufacturers of nondurable goods. Layoffs held steady at 1.8 million.
The number of people quitting their jobs – a sign of confidence in their future prospects – increased to its highest level in a year.
