The regime wants to impose a bond of up to $15,000 on people applying for a US visa, if they are from a country with a record of citizens overstaying a US visa. I’m sure it is purely a coincidence that the countries on the list are populated with brown or black people.

Why is it a bad thing to keep people from overstaying their visas? Black, brown or turquoise. Why, if they are the ones doing it, why should we roll over for it? And this is a soft way of doing it. No jails. No cops. Just like buying Slim Jim at a 7-11. Got the money? Good. Don’t? No Slim Jim.
As has been offered before, in Shiny-land, ideology dictates everything, like education and health care, are to be rationed by ability to pay.
It’s just interesting, that, unlike the Slim Jim example, the barrier is put up in front of POCs, not white west Europeans.

The barrier is for people from places who have been shown to over-stay their visas. We have jack diddley to do with their skin color or possibly religious beliefs And just what do we or anyone else, owe black and brown people from other countries simply for being black or brown? It’s this kind of knee jerk thinking that keeps me off the Left side of teh field and keeps too many voting Far Right
Like anything, it will all come down to how this is measured. Will it be based on a percentage of overstays, or the number of overstays?
Take the worst offending country - Chad is almost at 50% overstays, with a total of 377 overstays. Compare that to India - Only 1.29% overstay their visa, but they had 12,882 total overstays.
Or, maybe the objective is to keep non-white people out, and “overstay visa” is a convenient excuse?
Ah, data is a wonderful thing. The article on bubblevision’s page shows the countries with the highest overstay rate, and the countries with the highest number of overstays:
Overstay rates will be based on the Department of Homeland Security’s 2023 Entry/Exit Overstay Report. This report, published on Aug. 5, 2024, shows countries with high overstay rates include Chad (50%), Laos (35%) and Haiti (31%).
However, countries with the most total overstays, by number, are Mexico (approximately 49,000), Brazil (21,000), Colombia (41,000), Haiti (27,000), Venezuela (22,000) and Dominican Republic (20,000).
This list of all countries, by numbers of overstays shows 20,029 from Spain, 15,712 from the UK, 9,182 from France, 8,161 from Italy, 5,984 from Germany. So, where is the source of the “overstay problem”?
