This article is alerting doctors to check for cardiovascular (CV) problems in anyone who had Covid-19, even if they recovered months earlier. They noted that 5% to 29% of COVID-19 survivors complain of cardiovascular symptoms such as chest pain, dyspnea, or palpitations months after their recovery from the acute infection. These could become chronic, long-lasting problems even in patients who didn’t previously have risk factors.
Nobody knows yet whether the risk factors for serious Covid – including hypertension, diabetes, obesity, tobacco use, and sedentary behavior – also result in worse long Covid.
Given the huge numbers of Covid patients and the expense of treating chronic CV disease (including inability to work) this has true Macroeconomic significance.
