Great story. And seems authentic. (He gets recognized and feted as a long term cruiser by the band on the ship on one cruise.)

It would be great to see his worksheets about cash flow/liabilities spreadsheet before going on permanent cruising, and what his spreadsheet looks like now. (Does he have to feed his plan? Or holding steady?)

I’ve read earlier stories of retired folks making plans to “cruise continuously”. Food supplied. Housing supplied. Medical taken care of by on board Dr(s), etc.

Aside from the $'s question, their is a catch in the whole scheme in form of family left behind. A non-trivial factor.

…and quietly disappeared from the lives of his friends and family to pursue a new life…

I think he has more issues than job burn out. To each their own.

Wow!!! I know that guy because, a few years ago, I was on his ship (his ship for that month or two, he changes ships every few months) when he celebrated night 5000. They had a whole thing on deck to celebrate it … they brought out a big desk and he sat at it and shook some hands and made some conversation.

While it is true that I still have a home on land, with the exception of “COVID season”, I have managed to spend 6-10 months a year traveling for a decade, I have met a few people who have spent 20+ years on ships as well as a few elderly who are currently running down the clock aboard ships.
