McDonald’s to PERMANENTLY leave Russia

McDonald’s to PERMANENTLY leave Russia and will sell all 850 stores after 30 years in response to Ukraine war

MCDONALD’S has announced it is selling all of its Russian branches in response to the ongoing war in Ukraine.

The fast-food giant, which first opened in Russia 30 years ago as the Soviet Union crumbled, has 847 stores in the country, employing some 62,000 people.

McDonald’s first closed its stores in March following international outcry at Vladimir Putin’s invasion of Ukraine.

A number of other Western companies have agreed to sell their Russian branches or hand them over to local managers following the heavy sanctions imposed on the country in the wake of mad Vlad’s invasion.

Coca-Cola, Pepsi and Starbucks were among the firms that pulled out of Russia in the early weeks of the war.

Other major companies which have either suspended their services in Russia or pulled out of the country include Apple, Disney, H&M, Ikea, Netflix, PlayStation, Spotify and TikTok.

On a lighter note, the hearts and arteries of the Russian people are thankful.

I’ve been avoiding McDonald’s since 2004, when the movie Super Size Me grossed me out. McDonald’s seems to be doing just fine without my business, so I don’t think it will lose much money by pulling out of Russia.

You imply that all McDonalds in Russia are owned. Is that correct? Or do they have franchises there too. If so franchizers could conceivably continue if they can find suppliers. But then McDonalds exposure might mostly be inventory.

Many times McD would own the property and lease it to the franchisee.

According to Russian news outlet RIA Novosti, a number of McDonald’s restaurants that are owned by franchisees remain open. While the vast majority of McDonald’s restaurants in Russia are company-operated, over 100 of its nearly 850 locations are run by franchisees.

Such fakery on the West’s part about principles and morals.

I dont think sanctions are fakery. They make cross border interactions difficult. Whether money or supplies. Maybe manpower and training.

Don’t forget about the soft-serve ice cream machines!

“Democracy!” in China - XI appointing himself forever.

Uyghurs - innocent muslim civilians being in camps, re-educated, tortured - - but China doesn’t get their Big Macs taken away.

Homosexuals are tossed off buildings in Iran -= and we’re negotiating to allow their oil on the market.

I feel our “principles” are selective, and vanity.

And while we take away cheeseburgers - Germany has continued to fund the Ukrainian adventure via oil purchases.

“We stand with Ukraine!”

“We don’t like Putin and want to see him drained - and sell our weapons. It’s all to our benefit!”

On a lighter note, the hearts and arteries of the Russian people are thankful.

But they are, or fairly-soon will be, technically not McDonald’s restaurants.
