Most real life retirees don't take 4%

… it’s more like 2% at age 65.

It’s been more than 30 years since I’ve taken a withdrawal anywhere near 4% of assets. Now that I’m taking SS and two small pensions, I may never make a retirement portfolio withdrawal again except for RMDs.

After a while you get to the point where you realize that the real luxury in retirement isn’t the wealth. It’s the fact that there’s nothing you have to do and nobody you have to report to.

{{ The study found that retirees tend to view RMDs as “income” rather than “savings depletion.” When the government forces a withdrawal, retirees are much more likely to spend that money than reinvest it. }}

Nah. If your current rate of spending is sufficient to fund everything you’re interested in doing, why put in the work to spend more?

Indeed 4% of assets or 25x living expenses is the minimum needed to consider retiring. As you assets grow your % spend may well decline. That is great because it gives you more of a buffer to handle the unexpected.

Well done!! Carry on!!

Are you doing Roth conversions to avoid the huge RMD tax bill?
