I really don’t think stocks care about how much you have invested in them.
But from your post I imply that you are quite wealthy. If so it may make more sense to use markets to preserve rather than to increase your wealth. If you already have all you need/want why take extra risk?
The skill sets used to earn money in the real word may or may not apply to investing.

OK, THAT’S ENOUGH! WE HAVE 21 POSTS ON THIS TOTALLY OFF-TOPIC THREAD.
It is TIME TO QUIT.
There are boards which are for managing your portfolio. This is not one of them. Please take this discussion to another board. Thanks for your cooperation.

Getting a ‘good’ income with low risk may not be all that easy (at least, Fidelity seems to think so) but I wish to explore the strategy as I would like to keep my current growth stocks
Saul doesn’t want us to discuss options here so I’ll just add one brief comment.
My experience is that a 5% income comes at the risk of having your options assigned. A 2% income is doable with less risk of losing your stocks, it might not sound like much but it’s pure gravy. Picking the right expiration dates and the right strike prices needs a good spreadsheet model and good timing.

To me investments less than 3% are a sideshow. Probably not worth the trouble. Their performance is rarely significant to the bottom line. Better to add small sums to existing holdings.
33 X 3% stocks is 99% yet you have “30-35 stocks.” How many are less than 3%? Why not get rid of them?

A good way to become a buy/hold investor in your position I would say is max out your 401K/403B e.g. if you can get to at least 15% of your salary. Many companies allow over-subscribing to that if you ask to let you give up to the IRS limit of about 18K/year.
They usually have limited investment options so its not tempting to jump it in and out of hot stocks so that is good training for a long term mindset. I would recommend you look at a target retirement option there if your company has it. e.g. target 2055 retirement fund, set and forget.
Then set up a ROTH IRA and give that as much as you can up to limit of $5,500 / year and that can be your trading account for better tax treatment on gains.
If you are not on a career path to be able to set aside 18K/year to 401K and $5,500 to ROTH that is really understandable, especially at your age. Many good careers have modest pay especially starting out. But consider either taking classes to further your career or starting a side business so you have more money to work with.
As for the stocks, I won’t comment on quality but one thing many will say your 27 stocks is way too many especially if you are holding positions less than $1000. Try to cut out 2-4 now with goal to get down to 10-15 in your trading portfolio.
Good luck, you are farther along than many your age, I’m sure.
Great advice… 401K limit in 2018 is $18,500… it goes up to $19,000 in January 2019. Keep up to date with the maximum amounts and keep that max’ed out.
Two things I’d add
1)look at your total investment position… if all your 401k is in index funds or mutual funds… take that into account in the stocks you pick for your Roth and taxable accounts. Agree with everyone else on fewer positions.
2) Plan for your kids or future kids colleges… start as early as possible… time is your friend.

Saul does NOT like Options discussion on his board, so I’ll reply to you via email.
If you want to learn options go to Option Alpha. They have a ton of free training that’s the best out there. His Lifetime membership is a BARGIN.

As I explained, those that perform usually become 6% ers or more. Those that don’t eventually get purged. 3% ers are mostly ones that look good on paper and are being tried out.

There are more columns and they are sortable, I keep this list in my Portfolio web-app. The 5 year growth rate is not calculated from start to finish, it’s a best fit line and I only update it about once a month with data from Yahoo which is sometimes flaky. The All Time High is updated daily using the closing price. Yahoo uses the interday high.
