New Boeing order

Qatar Airways signs deal for 160 Boeing jets during Trump visit
https://www.reuters.com/business/aerospace-defense/qatar-signs-200-bln-deal-buy-jets-boeing-during-trump-visit-2025-05-14/
Trump said Boeing CEO Kelly Ortberg, who signed the deal with Qatar Airways CEO Badr Mohammed Al-Meer next to Trump and the Qatari emir, told him “it’s the largest order of jets in the history of Boeing, that’s good”…

It’s not clear which Boeing aircraft models would be part of the deal and whether the orders from Qatar are firm, which require a deposit and several contractual obligations, or are options.

So one Qatar Jet as a bribe for 160 boeing jets? Isn’t Qatar the same people who are funding Hamas and other terrorist groups?

No, the “gift” 74, plus the order to Boeing, are payback for the $5.5B Trump resort to be built in the country.

Ahhh so Trump is building a resort in Qatar? It’s nice to just follow the money. Amazing how his followers are now defending Hamas. LOL

Not all of them. I’m not sure if hell froze over, but I’m finding myself in agreement with Loony Lara Loomer and Ben Shysterpiro.

Regarding the $400 million jet / bribe:

Loomer - “This is really going to be such a stain on the admin if this is true…I’m so disappointed.”

Shapiro - “If you want TFG to succeed, this kind of skeezy stuff needs to stop.”

I’m calling you out and I hope Wendy/others step in and rectify this. I’m tired of constantly being told that I “hate America” because I am a liberal Democrat. I am tired of the anger and hatred you spew on a constant basis on this board. I am tired of the constant stream of lies and misinformation you spew on this board.

Do they say why they are not proud? There is a difference between not being proud, and hating America of course. Something D20 has no ability to understand.

They don’t go into deep detail.

As for your comment “I am tired of the anger and hatred you spew on a constant basis on this board.” I could argue I see just as much of that from several liberal posters here. I ignore those posts, (not the posters) because 1.) I do respect Wendy’s desire to keep this board non-political. 2) I have found over the years that discussing politics on message boards are a waste of time. You are not going to change the other sides mind.

I have changed my mind on issues, i think anyone who has honest dialogue can come up with a bettter solution. You might not like my point of view but it doesn’t mean we can’t come to a consensus!!

Multiple ways to fix this

a) Use the ignore button so you don’t see my posts
b) Mods can ban me from posting on the board
c) Ignore my posts

Here’s a link to the actual study for those who’d like something more unbiased and reliable than a Daily Caller piece -

Being proud to be an American is not the same as loving your country. Pride is based on shorter term approval of a country’s direction. Love of country is more enduring. I could be wrong, but I’m willing to bet that if the question were “Do you love your country?” we’d see much more alignment between the three groups.

Here’s a more detailed breakout of what aspects are deemed central to American identity:

Individual rights and freedoms seem to be a common aspect for everyone polled. Also, it appears that all groups think economic opportunity and upward mobility is a central aspect.

Each group probably has very different ideas about what these things entail…

I can assure you that Boeing is not winning. As recently as 2018 they both had a 50% share of the market.

In 2024 Airbus had over 766 deliveries. Boeing had roughly 350. If you think that’s “winning”, well that explains a lot about your other posts.

This is the most valuable information you’ve ever posted.

I think most people know 2024 was not a good year for Boeing. In the first four months of this year the deliveries were 192 versus Boeing’s 175, a less than 10% difference.

DB2

But of those Boeing planes how many actually flew and of the ones that flew how many actually landed safely?

My earlier post had some misinformation; I confused “share” with “deliveries” on a chart. It does not change the outcome, if anything it’s a bit worse for Boeing. [And I will edit the earlier post, upthread]

2024: Boeing deliveries: 350
2024: Airbus deliveries: 766

Neither was 2023, or 2022, or 2021, or …

You can’t look at “4 months”, it’s an irrelevant statistic, like looking at the first 3 months of the baseball season. If there’s a clear trend here it’s that Boeing is losing market share, and has been for 15 years.

Largest order in the history of Boeing is good. I want Boeing to succeed. They’ve got a steep hill to climb. They have production issues and quality issues that must be corrected. Typically, solving one creates problems with the other.

"Richard Aboulafia, managing director of US-based consultancy firm Aerodynamic Advisory, said the timing of the Qatar Airways order was “politically savvy” and a “nice win” for Boeing.

However, he added: “It doesn’t indicate an accelerated need for aircraft or that Boeing has won any battle,” noting that airlines often make orders for delivery dates far into the future.

Boeing’s problems in recent years have stemmed from the difficulty it has had meeting delivery deadlines - not a fall in demand.

“You can add more jets to the backlog - thank you Qatar Airways - but the problem for some time now, and it will continue to be a problem, is on the production side,” he said. “They need to build more planes.”
