New minimum tax could hit Berkshire hardest

The 15% minimum tax would impact around 78 companies, with Berkshire Hathaway and Amazon paying the most.



Yeah, I wouldn’t count on that being true. There were a ton of assumptions made by the academics that are unlikely to reflect how the actual law is written and they only looked at a year when Berkshire had enormous unrealized gains on the equity portfolio.

There is no reason to assume that this new minimum corporate tax law intends to negate tax credits for renewable energy, accelerated depreciation for domestic investment, and introduce a new tax on unrealized gains on equity securities inside insurance companies.

Lobbyists are hard at work.
