Actually, yes…like those countries and the US at a time when animal studies were heavily relied upon to provide all the data necessary to allow for sale to the general public.
Hard to believe, I know … unless you happen to notice the frequency that animal studies/rodent research are still touted via press release as if the results apply to human subjects.
The data that Chemie-Grunenthal relied upon was purely from animal testing…New Zealand White bunnies, I think (a popular test subject at that time)…and showed a very safe product for use. On pregnant New Zealand Whites. If Frances Kelsey really was actually only using available safety data, I have a shrewd idea that there wasn’t really much of a reason for concern…and the delay was more likely bureaucratic foot dragging.
