Three important projects are underway in the US. These are small, modular reactors, that produce less power, but hopefully can be built faster and more efficiently, once the manufacturing line gets underway.
Oklo recently broke ground in Idaho for its Aurora powerhouse.
Eventually, Oklo plans to use recycled spent fuel for its sodium-cooled fast reactors. This way, they can consume spent waste fuel from other nuclear power plants. Fuel recycling cuts down on the total amount of high level spent waste, as they can extract more energy from the same fuel.

Earlier this summer, also in Idaho, Aalo Atomics broke ground for one of its SMRs.

In Tennessee, construction is underway on the Kairos Power Hermes low power test reactor. This first reactor from Kairos will not produce electricity, but a second Hermes-2 plant, is intended to generate electric power.
