Nuclear Power in South Korea

Construction has been authorized for Units 3 and 4 at Shin Hanul.

The above construction permit was issued a few months after Unit 2 at Shin Hanul entered commercial operation.

Also this year, Barakah Unit 4 in the United Arab Emirates entered commercial service. The Barakah plants were designed and built by a consortium of companies from South Korea. Korea Electric Power Corporation (KEPCO), along with its subsidiary, Korea Hydro & Nuclear Power (KHNP), led the construction effort.

Based on the success by KHNP in exporting nuclear power to the UAE, KHNP was recently selected by the government of the Czech Republic to supply new nuclear power plants to that European country.

Norway is also in discussions with the South Koreans for new nuclear power development.

Nuclear power construction might be stalled in the United States, but new development continues in other parts of the world.

These few nuclear power stories pale in comparison to the hundreds of worldwide stories new of power projects using solar, wind, hydro, geothermal, biomass and energy storage projects.
