Ohio BP Refinery on Fire


And Canada had a refinery explosion/fire a little over 2 weeks ago:

Sept 2 (Reuters) - A fire and explosion on Friday at an idled oil refinery in Canada’s Newfoundland and Labrador province injured eight people before the blaze was contained, Canadian police said.

All eight people went to hospital, some with serious injuries, said Royal Canadian Mounted Police spokesperson Corporal Jolene Garland. All other employees have been accounted for.

Refineries, by their nature, do tend to blow up from time to time. That being said, BP seems to have a particular problem with it’s refineries blowing up.

BP’s Dismal Safety Record

In two separate disasters prior to the Gulf oil rig explosion, 30 BP workers have been killed, and more than 200 seriously injured.

In the last five years, investigators found, BP has admitted to breaking U.S. environmental and safety laws and committing outright fraud. BP paid $373 million in fines to avoid prosecution.
