Okta: Integrating HR and IT

Great blog post on Okta’s website talking about 3 of their services:

Identity Cloud, Universal Directory, and Lifecycle Management.

As companies continue to move to the cloud and distributed work forces with security requirements and threats only increasing, I can see Okta as a very sticky and critical service.

Not something a business will want to change once they move to it (as long as it does it’s job, and not something to cancel during a recession or down trend.

Stickiness of the service is both a benefit and an obstacle.

Where I worked, SSO and identity management was a security issue before I retired over 8 years ago. IT Security (a separate organization which I worked with often) had a recommendation for a product to address this problem (no, I don’t remember what it was). To the best of my recollection, management accepted the recommendation and the product was procured and installed.

Assuming it was not OKTA, it will be a sales problem for them to unseat whatever sticky product was installed.
