On jobs

A little snippet from the Zacks Home Run Investor.

What was impressive was jobless claims. Inital claims fell to 247,000 for the seven days ended April 16th. It was the lowest level since November 1973. Initial claims have been below 300,000 for 59 straight weeks, the longest consecutive period since that same year, 1973.

Very impressive on its own, and even more so since the population of the country now is a lot larger than it was in 1973.

And this…

“We’d love to be able to argue convincingly that these data represent hard evidence of a further improvement in labor market conditions, but it’s more likely that Easter-related seasonal adjustment problems explain the drop,” wrote Pantheon Macroeconomics’ Ian Shepherdson after the data crossed.

"The seasonals struggle to cope with the shifting date of the holiday from year to year, and the numbers won’t be reliable again until early May.

Very impressive on its own, and even more so since the population of the country now is a lot larger than it was in 1973.

And more women are job seekers as well.
