I came across this article about Open Source (OS) and what it might mean for the business plans of companies like MongoDB & Elastic. It covers both MongoDBs attempts to change its OS licence and Elastic’s troubles with AWS.

I’m not sure what to make of it overall and would be interested in hearing other people’s take on this.
A couple of points did grab my attention though. The first is that the OS community is pretty strongly of the opinion that being an OS project does not support your right, per se, to make money off of it even if you are doing most of the work. The other is the implication that a competitive moat could be something to starve behind if you are not careful.
