Mangum made her confession in an interview published Wednesday on “Let’s Talk with Kat,” hosted by Katerena DePasquale, at the North Carolina Correctional Institution for Women. Unrelated to the lacrosse case, Mangum is currently in prison after being convicted of second-degree murder of her then-boyfriend in 2013.

On a side note, if "anyone who commits murder is mentally il"l then that make Ms. Mangum a sick puppy.
A fair comparison would be “How many women lied about an attack”, and then contrast that with “How many men, after being confronted, say ‘I didn’t do it.’”
I suspect the first question would be answered in the single digits, and the second with over 90%.
Key question is are there witnesses. Too often its a personal situation with no witnesses. Then its he said, she said. How do you decide? Maybe if there are additional accusers.
Meanwhile it becomes a news item and reputations and sometimes careers are damaged. And can be used to demand a payoff.
