Jimmy Carr is a British comedian, who dies a lot of “crowd work” in which he takes comments /heckles from the audience and makes it part of his show.
He often spits out amazing bits of wisdom during his shows.
Here, a person asks him “how rich are you?”.
He responds
" Here’s how I define rich: If having more money wouldn’t change what you do, then you’re rich. "
If you are under stress and can’t meet your daily needs then more money would help. This is poverty.
If you are meeting your daily needs but have wants that you can’t meet then more money would help. This is middle class.
If you have everything you need and want and wouldn’t change anything if you had more money…then you are rich.
What income does this take in the U.S.? Of course, everyone is different. If you are a thrifty person living in a low cost of living area and happy eating fast food every day it will be different than someone living in a mansion in San Francisco and needing to cruise the world to be happy.*

*In Ethics of the Fathers (Pirkei Avot), Ben Zoma in Chapter 4, Mishnah 1, states, "Who is rich? He who rejoices in his lot, as it is said: ‘You shall enjoy the fruit of your labors, you shall be happy and you shall prosper’ (Psalms 128:2) ‘You shall be happy’ in this world, ‘and you shall prosper’ in the world to come."
