OT....new guidelines for cholesterol management

….per the Skeptical Cardiologist (this is the medical writer who tipped my hand towards getting the CAC scan that put a rest to my PCP’s confidence in my healthy lifestyle as a mitigation for ASCVD risk)

Anyway, have at it (if interested) …. including the hyperlinks to some of his other articles on the topic. They help build a picture of understanding…

“The recent sudden death of the 41-year old son of a patient of mine, however, has reinforced to me how crucial it is to begin risk assessment and potential treatments as early as possible,”

If you don’t look, you’ll never find. Never ask, you never know. I’m reminded of two stories,

1 - autopsies being done on Vietnam soldiers 18-21 years old and finding coronary artery disease. This should have been a clue that heart disease wasn’t just for middle aged to older people.

2 - Moonlight Graham (since today is Opening Day for baseball and those that love the movie Field of Dreams) was a physician and baseball player in the early 1900s. He was the only physician in a small Minnesota mining town. He did yearly checkups on all the children every year when the school year started. So he had immaculate records and tons of data on height, weight, etc. What was significant? He showed the hypertension (high blood pressure) was not just an adults disease. Much of his data and reporting are still used in pediatrics today.
