I regret to inform the METAR Board that Robert Chastain (notehound) died yesterday. He must have suffered terribly since he was reported to be in the ICU 25 days ago.
I am so sad to learn about this. Notehound was a wise and learned attorney who enjoyed teaching at the college level. He treasured the positive comments from his students who appreciated his caring nature.
Thanks for letting us know. I have lost track how many others we have lost over the years. I remember Russ of the frog farm, who had a stroke after “black Friday” shopping and Trenchrat. Someone commented that Harmy passed some years ago.
I had many interesting and challenging debates with Notehound. We disagreed frequently, yet I got (and I hope reflected) a level of respect for the other’s opinion that is often unmatched on the internet.
It seems odd that you can be affected by the death of someone you never actually met, had a meal with, or even a conversation using mouth and ears - just keyboard - and yet feel the loss as though it was someone you passed on the street and waved to on your way to work each morning.
Notehound was a wonderful specimen of what once was called a gentleman. We talked investment, but had many side conversations on fine points of music, conducting, singing…
