I’d like to buy but:
They have a ton of patent challenges and it might not be a rock solid most
They have the most concentrated sales risk I have ever seen
They could be over taken very easily by the next lighting technology (esp if LG or Samsung or Apple come up with it)

(I held the stock many years ago - made some and sold out way too early)

Isnt’ that true of almost every tech company?

True, but the flat screen market is pretty concentrated. Samsung has 21.6% and LG about 11.9% in 2016. From the fool article:
Major customers and growth drivers in displays include Samsung Display, LG Display, Apple, Panasonic, Sony, and the like. Importantly, these companies used to or currently do rely on competing for older display technologies such as LCD and LED. As they convert to OLED en masse, they’ll continue to drive Universal Display stock higher.
There’s a similar – if not larger – opportunity for OLED lighting, although it’s earlier in the development process. Nonetheless, it could become a $1.9 billion market in 2021 and a $5.8 billion market by 2025. That means those 4,200 patents will prove pretty valuable for the foreseeable future.
as they convert… = lots of growth to come. I see more and more in Costco, and that means mass market acceptance.
They could be over taken very easily by the next lighting technology (esp if LG or Samsung or Apple come up with it)
yes, QLED is a possible game change, but OLED is still considered much better. Will it happen so fast you loss more than you profits? If they keep growing at an accelerating rate for 2 years, your profit margin will be large enough to handle a sudden sea change, plus, if it becomes a big part of your portfolio because of grwoth, then you will want to trim some anyway.

OLED has a long growth runway. So many markets to enter or expand in. Their displays are really great and they offer a lot flexibility to smart devices. The ability to have a screen without a backlight is a huge advantage and so is the power efficiency.
Global display companies are throwing down billions investing in manufacture of OLED displays. This to me proves there is demand.
QLED is a great tech too, although it requires a backlight. The people at Best Buy sure do love it, they pushed me pretty hard on that while I was TV shopping.
FWIW totally anecdotal but I recently purchased a top of the line LG 4K TV with an OLED screen. It does have a beautiful picture but I don’t think the OLED part is worth the money, it’s only a little better than upper end conventional non OLED displays. OLED needs to come down in price, a lot to be mass market for TV.
Are you feeding it from a source with the quality to make the most of it? The shortage of such* is why I have not gone to 4K. I have to say the giant OLED on demo at Costco seemed to have a pretty nice edge.
*(the shortage I mentioned could possibly only be in my own mind)
tried it on 4K streaming and on HD Comcast.(1080 P) not 4K
4K HDR sources are hard to find but recent productions from Amazon and some others have it, streaming only, via newest AppleTV. I understand there are a few 4K DVD too.
Getting a 4K TV set has no downside they don’t cost much more. Getting an OLED is another matter, they are quite expensive,
If you have a small screen TV HD 4KHDR won’t add much. But it adds lot with big screen TV. If you can find any 4K programming.
apparently you need both 4K and HDR to get a f good experience

adding OLED instead of LED nearly doubles the price. It’s the OLED part I would not do again.
