Privatizing Fannie and Freddie

My bias is preventing me from seeing this as anything but a money grab by hedgefunds and politicians looking for money to offset tax cuts.

Upside could bring more competition, downside could bring economic catastrophe.

Help a brother regulate his bias.

Privatizing, into the hands of cronies. Secure in the knowledge they can do anything idiotic they want, and the government will bail them out, just like the last time…or…think big…collapse the GSEs to provoke the recreation of the RTC, so the assets can be grabbed by cronies at pennies on the dollar.

Welp, that’s not helping my bias. These are the thoughts that immediately ran through my mind. It totally seems like a give away and recipe for a repeat of the risk taking that led to their conservatorship.

Anyone else have an upside to brighten up my doominess and gloominess?

I bought some FNMA preferred back in November as a speculation. So far it is up 15%.

Considering that Freddie and Fannie are nothing but subsidy programs for the homebuilding and mortgage industries, I would be fine with them being DOGEd
