Any system that requires someone to die during the transition of power is not ideal.
I don’t support the monarchy, but Queen Elizabeth certainly did her job as well as she could all those years. It reminds me of that scene in the movie Galaxy Quest where Sigourney Weaver says something like, “This is my only job on this ship, and it’s a stupid job, but I’m going to do it.”
Of course, she had her failings.
Her sense of humor was not one of those failings. My favorite is her meeting American tourists on a hike that didn’t recognize her. And the James Bond spoof for the Olympics was a nice touch.
