Revising My Investing Goals

What does a typical pre-retiree have? Plenty of time and not much money. What does a typical retiree, especially a late-stage retiree, have? Plenty of money, but a diminishing amount of time for the projects he/she would still like to accomplish.

Yeah, yeah. Old-age poverty is on the increase in the US, in part due to poor planning by those retirees 30 or 40 years ago, and in part due to our government having been seized by grifters whose chief concern is self-enrichment not the general welfare.

Fixing the problems of either is beyond my control, as is what’s happening in Ukraine or West Asia. Lots of people in those places are freezing, starving, or dying which can cause us who are here and safe an uncomfortable cognitive dissonance. But the reality remains that there’s not much an ā€œaverageā€ retiree can do to fix those problems.

Of late, asset prices have been on a rip, with silver tagging 114 compared to its price of 50 a couple months back, and daily gains across a whole portfolio of 1% or more haven’t been unusual, prompting these two questions: ā€œHow much is Enough?ā€ "Once ā€˜Enough’ has been achieved, why pursue ā€˜More’?

I’m a boat-builder, have been since I was a kid, and have built maybe fifteen. But it occurred to me today, as our West coast winter begins to transition into spring, that I’d rather be building yet another one than chasing after unneeded market gains.

Below is typical of what I build: simple, single-user rowboats that are easily cartopped.

Row row row your boat to retiring down the stream is a great idea, however invest in GPIX, GPIQ, SPYI and QQQI as sidebar action for some pocket change to support the maintenance and some extra monthly coins to buy more supplies to build your next Yacht. ;o))

Enjoy the Journey of being retired.
