Well, if they were producing the nuclear waste in an are with deep salt mines, or along faults that would take the waste way deeper into he center of the earth, that might work, but generally it’s near a water source for cooling, not likely the same area… Blasting it off into the Sun would work, too, if rocketry was truly reliable… There are no easy answers, for now, one day, fusion might be viable, definitely a better option, if only we valued research, science, education…

Nuclear materials can not be put in disposal at the mining source or processing facility or where it is used because it is moved all over the country from where it was mined, shipped, processed, used, removed, packaged and finally shipped to disposal site.
