but it seems if Commoncents was seriously seeking an answer it would have been worth taking the time to review previous posts to see if we’ve been down this road before.
Let’s be honest. There are 10,000 posts here. Most people aren’t going to wade through 10,000 posts in an often vain effort to find out something that’s easily answered in a single post. (And if someone has answered it before, then they can probably find it a heck of a lot more easily than someone new to the board can.)
Others have already pointed out that many of the comments and questions posted by Commoncents seem to have an agenda other than innocently seeking an explanation regarding a point of confusion or an apparent inconsistency.
Yes, I’ve not seen such defensiveness on the part of board participants since I said that @Home might not be a good investment back in 1998. It was a fair question. Fairly asked. And easily answered. Instead, what we got was “don’t let the door hit you on the way out” and variants.
No one is arm twisted into learning from Saul and using his methods. And indeed if your own analysis of Saul’s approach leads you to conclude that his returns are average at best and far more risky than simply buying an index fund, then I would suggest you stop wasting your time (something of far greater value than stock market returns) and move along.
You know, like that. The math is the math. If someone points out that the math is the math, one might think a head scratch is in order rather than the opposite and automatic defense. Jeez, it’s like the Klingons invaded or something.
Go for a walk in the park. Have an ice-cream cone with your kids. Do something other than lurk here and ask thinly veiled questions that seem directed more at instilling FUD than seeking answers.
See? The questions are not “thinly veiled.” They are simple, straightforward, and arithmetic and logic oriented. It is YOU who are seeing dark motives. Calling results “average” if they are indeed average is not slander. Even calling them “extremely average” is not, if they are indeed average. You see?
He’s worked with another contributor to this board in order to provide a coherent knowledgebase so one needn’t read thousands of posts in order to distill the main ideas.
So a new participant read the knowledge base. She still had questions. She asked the questions. And for that multiple people are heaping calumny upon her. Not really very welcoming, nor designed to elicit meaningful conversion, is it?
But that’s just my impression . . .
