Saw first VW ad on SNL50 showing the ID Buzz (EV VW Van)

Been waiting for it. Will be $$$ at first, then prices go down. How fast? No clue. Newer/better batteries will help various ways.

VW brought a Buzz to a show I went to last June. As has been VW’s thing in recent years, it is packed full of gimmicks. One example: instead of a simple shade that can be pulled closed to block light from the sunroof, VW used electric “dynamic” glass that can be tinted or turned opaque at the touch of a switch. Think for a moment what it would cost to replace that glass if hail broke it, and that is assuming the electronics that operate the glass don’t go wrong. But use a simple shade that the driver can pull shut, both cheaper and more reliable? Noooo Can’t do that.

How would you like to wade through some menus on the in-dash video game, just to adjust the HVAC controls? My VW had physical buttons and knobs, but noooo, can’t do that anymore. Need to have more gimmicks in the car.

My ten year old VW has lights in the footwells, so I can see if I drop something on the floor at night. It also has lights in the switches for the dome lights, so I can find the switches in the dark, to turn the lights on.

Do new VWs have useful interior lights? Nooo Can’t do that. But they have umpteen color “ambient lighting”…another gimmick.
