Social Security Fraud?

Yes. Musk’s allegations are indeed a nothing burger.

The problem identified in this IG report is a different problem. It is overall fraud and error, not just fraud related to very old accounts of people who are almost certainly dead.

I’ll also point out that a combined error and fraud rate of less than one percent is good. It does not represent any kind of major systemic issues that demand immediate and significant action.

Of course, they show room for improvement. But that improvement requires Congress to increase the SSA’s administrative budget, which they have failed to do for a decade or so.

That improvement is not going to come from a bunch of unqualified people play acting and putting on a show. It would come from knowledgeable people - specifically the office of Inspector General - doing the job they have been doing for the last 60+ years. Unfortunately, there seem to be a lot of vacancies in the top IG positions at the moment.

I believe the IGs were fired because they would get in the way of the corruption the current administration is interested in committing. Fire the incumbents and install lackies in their place who will stay silent while the various departments are raped for the JC’s benefit.
