Square Downgrade

The analyst says that competition will increase and the First Data Clover service will likely be cheaper…REally?

I use Clover through my bank, and I can tell you I cannot figure out the statement, I just got screwed out of a chargeback (small, but still. I am going to sue the b@s…no need to complete the word, as I will win, some things you do out of principle) and it is in no way cheaper.

I do not believe this analyst understands the appeal and value that Square brings.

Nevertheless, unless it is a hit piece (like that Cisco sell was with the resurgent Cisco) it is always informative and valuable to read the reason for the serious downgrade.

Just a quick anecdotal observation…I do notice a lot of Clover devices out in the wild. Maybe as many as Square, IDK?

Also, a couple weeks ago at a little boutique in Venice they ran my credit card with a wireless Spotify device.

Does Square have a meaningful moat? If I’m a small to medium sized retailer and I already have my online presence set up via Spotify, seems pretty seamless and easy to go with Spotify’s POS system over Square’s.

Did you mean Shopify instead of Spotify?

Whoops. Yes, Shopify. It’s early.

Spotify is music streamer. Daughter loves it. They got a ticker?

Looking back through that page on the IPO, I wonder what Spotify’s plan really is since they don’t look to raise any funds in the IPO:

Direct listings are different from traditional initial public offerings in that a company doesn’t issue new shares or seek to raise money through the process of going public. Rather, the listing makes it possible for existing shareholders to sell their shares to the public.

Maybe they do a secondary after they have shares trading perhaps? I use TIdal which is great. Better streaming quality but I am sure that Spotify will catch up. But I don’t like the model, there doesn’t look to be any path to profitability. Unlike Netflix, there is little unique content on music streaming services that I have seen. Almost everything on Spotify seems to be on Tidal as well and probably Apple Music.
