If these ever get to a 20 year life and batteries get to sub 100 dollars a kilowatt hour installed, solar plus storage will be ubiquitous everywhere south of Kansas City.

Materials Science and Engineering is not as sexy as AI but without it there would be little innovation for AI to work on. If you examine a Tesla, much of its success isa based on new and improved materials and chemistries from batteries to aluminum alloy for giga-castings, glass for the semi’s giant window, and much more.

Yeah, I could not talk my nephew who went to MIT into material sciences. I think he wanted to join his MIT friends in computer science. I dropped it when he said it was not his thing. He is doing really well in the job market but to a degree he is interchangeable. He is just on a higher level than most and more productive than most.
