TACO is alive and well

Of course, there is always the possibility that he won’t cave, some day, and give us all a big poo-burger to eat, but I think the money interests will yank his chain.

“It is highly likely,” said Bessent, that for those countries and trading blocs, like the European Union, “who are negotiating in good faith,” the U.S. would “roll the date forward to continue good faith negotiations.”

Why wouldn’t these foreign leaders be asking themselves: when was the last time Trump honored a contract that he signed ? A trade pact is a contract, right ? Didn’t Trump make a big deal out of the USMCA that he brokered in 2020 ?
A lot of good that trade deal did Mexico and Canada.

Why would anybody think he’s going to start honoring contracts that he signs now ??

Here’s another TACO. After raising the tariff on imported steel to 50%, reports are an “arty” deal is in the offing to import a capped amount of Mexican steel at reduced, or zero, tariff.

So TIG can take another “victory lap” as the bestest “dealmaker” the world has ever seen.

Looks like that was promptly walked back, but then, TADD (doubles down)may come before TACO:

President Donald Trump told reporters on Wednesday that he would send letters to trading partners in the next week or two setting unilateral tariff rates.“At a certain point, we’re just going to send letters out. And I think you understand that, saying this is the deal, you can take it or leave it,” the president said at the Kennedy Center in Washington.

Ah, The Art Of The Deal. Being a bully was his modus of operandi his entire life, it always worked on small contractors, no reason it won’t work on large foreign Countries /sarcasm

Steve,

Don’t underestimate Trump here.

The threat of tariffs against our allies insist they work with us against China.

Xi can play nice but that won’t save him.

Do not underestimate our Allies abandoning Trump and just isolating the United States.

Ironic because no one is abandoning anyone. We are reshuffling the chairs.

The chairs might be on the Titanic.

Open your eyes. When you have a rabid dog you do not try to pet it, you put it down.

As noted before, TIG’s position seems to be much like that of the honchos at RS. Bernie Appel’s attitude was that RS could do anything to it’s customers, and they would keep buying.

Steve

yup, no appreciation for bullies. He can get away with it when he holds all he has to do is threaten to sue Mom and Pop contractors, they don’t have $Millions to spend on lawyers like he does, But as is playing out in front of the World, when he can’t just bully a Country, he doesn’t have any other moves. He’s about the furthest thing from street smarts.

Wrong diagnosis, NYC street smarts don’t work well in DC. I watched the Zelenskyy abuse in the White House, “You have no cards in your hand!” Destroying 25-30% of the Russian bomber fleet overnight is not just cards but trumps in hand, pun intended! So much so that even Viktor Orbán changed his tune. Maybe not, I don’t understand how any Hungarian can side with Russia after decades of Soviet abuse. More likely the EU critters mislabeled his dislike for EU policies, specially about immigration, not the only one labeled Putin’s Friend who does not like open borders.

BTW, serial bankrupters are not among my favorites.
