Tesla ‘Full Self-Driving’ crashed through railroad gate seconds before train

Personally, I wish we stockholders could get explanations from any robotaxi operator why such incidents happen. Tesla is probably the least forthcoming, but all seem to hold back.
I doubt this is a camera-vision issue though I think Tesla has way too many issues with hitting objects, attempts to avoid phantom objects, etc for me to believe many of these are a result of a lack of any sensors other than the cameras.

This one seems totally inexplicable from an object detection viewpoint, but I think could easily be due to an end to end AI shortcoming. I’m guessing the cameras likely “saw” the object but AI may not have “understood” the implication of starting to accelerate anyway.

Or, we don’t have all the facts yet …

I agree Tamhas but the incident itself as relayed by the “victim” seems to speak for itself. My own thoughts that more likely an AI problem vs a camera or object detection problem, is just speculation on my part.

As many tend to say all the time, when actual facts are withheld then the void gets filled by other means.

I think the fact that Musk hasn’t commented on this speaks for itself. Most likely, Brown’s explanation of what happened is actually what happened.

And this was extra terrible. Not only did Brown say that FSD drove him through the first crossing arm, but it then parked his vehicle on the train tracks right in front of the oncoming train. Terrible.

Point being that there have been a number of claims re various accidents which are not born out by fact finding.
