I wonder what the timeline is for the full regulatory approval that Waymo enjoys for its robotaxi product?
It ain’t FSD if I still have to “supervise” it.

Certainly some people promote it as such. But why? A tape-out is a milestone towards production — not actually “in” production and available. Actual availability for inclusion in a car or other products is likely over a year out unless some kind of extra fast-track timeline is adopted. The chip is supposedly two yrs behind its original timeline. Some think this chip is more processing power for the car itself while some say it will NEVER be included in a car. Those dissenting say robots and training. Training could potentially benefit a car.
So why listen to the video hypester? Actual info of a more valuable nature is readily available elsewhere.
While we will still need to see how the final product actually performs, apparently it has a few benefits over a Nvidia Thor, but Thor is actually in cars already and some say will still be more powerfull than the AI5. However, the AI5 has been tuned for processing video and performs much better for that.
Video only though is still far from truly proven for robotaxis. Perhaps it is better for robots - who knows right now.

This AI5/HW5 story gets recycled every few months when Musk wants to boost the stock. Here’s an article from January 2026 that describes how Musk was saying AI5 was almost done when he had said 6 months earlier that it was finished:
