I rented a Polestar 2 for a week and my experience with a public charger was identical to your Tesla. I pulled the car in, hit a button in the car to release the latch, and plugged the car in and walked away. No app, no membership, no fees, etc.

Polestar comes with 2 years free charging at Electrify America locations (30 minutes maximum per charging session). If you try charging your Polestar at an EVGo or ChargePoint location, it wouldn’t be that easy.
