A small handful of nukes going off would destroy our entire species within a month or two. Those who survived beyond one month would be so sick suicide would be necessary in all cases.
Somehow we are smart enough to build massive stockpiles of nuclear weapons and not use them beyond what the US did to Japan and the tests in the outer atmosphere.
