The political creep onto METaR

Having quickly read the post containing an AEI article I never fact checked the source.

But AEI is the American Enterprise Institute which according to Wikipedia is a far right propaganda source.

So someone is flaunting the METaR board rules against political posts inorder to push a rightwing agenda.

Shame, shame, shame.

Can’t alway believe what you read on Wiki. I would certainly classify the AEI on the conservative side of things but not “far right”. And, of course, “propaganda” is a very slippery term.

On the AEI website they note that “AEI scholars and researchers often write for major news outlets such as The Washington Post, The New York Times, The Wall Street Journal, The Hill, and National Review among many others.”
www.aei.org/articles-op-eds/

The titles of some recent editorials:
A severed cable almost brought down the British Empire
The family dinner hour: Alive and well
Without a Supreme Court stay, the new OSHA mandate could have huge indirect effects on schools
Democracy vs. ‘democracy’: A turbulent 2022 in the Taiwan Strait
Can the Federal Reserve stop inflation without ‘popping’ the US economy?

That last is a very good question to ask…

The usual writings from AEI are pro business, anti-regulation, anti-tax, anti-union, anti-environment, and anti-Democratic party.

So you can throw articles all over the place but it doesn’t change the slant of the content.

Besides the Editorial pages of a publication is usually reserved for option pieces and not necessarily unbiased reports.

Partisan politics is not allowed on METAR. But economic and investment articles from various sources are allowed IF they do not mention politicians and/or political parties. Many of the sources have a political “slant” which often in the eye of the beholder. I am a paid subscriber to both the New York Times (leftish slant) and Wall Street Journal (rightish slant) to balance each other.

I agree with you that political slants are creeping onto METAR. But, to avoid censoring new trends that might be important economically, I do not FA them unless they are clearly partisan. Sourcing data from the American Enterprise Institute does not constitute partisanship – as long as the information is clearly economic in nature, which may be countered by a different data source if one exists.

METAR welcomes all investment and political points of view to prevent information cascades – provided that the posts are ON TOPIC and do not descend into partisan bickering (which belongs on the Political Asylum Board).

Here are charts of media bias.

The point of METAR is NOT NOT NOT to argue about politics – it is to collect data to make profitable investments from a variety of sources.

Yet the source of the information (net domestic migration flows)was from US Census Bureau.
Just what is the US Census Bureau’s political agenda?

I’ve never heard of AEI.

OTF says: But AEI is the American Enterprise Institute which according to Wikipedia is a far right propaganda source.

Wikipedia actually says:

The American Enterprise Institute for Public Policy Research, known simply as the American Enterprise Institute (AEI), is a right-leaning Washington, D.C.–based think tank that researches government, politics, economics, and social welfare.[2][3] AEI is an independent nonprofit organization supported primarily by contributions from foundations, corporations, and individuals. Founded in 1938, AEI is commonly associated with conservatism and neoconservatism but does not support political candidates.

How does the mention of “red” and “blue” states NOT fall into the realm of being political.

Someone needs to look up the definitions of “red” and “blue” states.

The way the data is interpreted and disseminated shows a political agenda.

No different than a report that shows recent immigrants die at an earlier age. Now I could post that you don’t want move to a particular state as the average life expectancy is less.

There are lies, damm lies and statistics.
