As horrifying as it might seem raising corporate taxes would have been enough. The corporate tax still has to be raised.
Sales of China products plummet. How can they not notice? Build big warehouses and keep manufacturing anyway? Might there be a cash flow problem?
Ship the stuff to Europe or somewhere else? I don’t think so.
Already container arrivals have slowed. There was probably a spike in sales as companies increased inventory in anticipation of tariffs. Now they work down inventory creating a production dip.
Will consumers do without Chinese goods? Doubtful. Will they pay tariffs? Yes, if sellers can’t find work arounds or Trump trade deals falter.
That is about what the CEO of Whirlpool said the other day: there was a surge of appliances being imported, in front of the tariffs. But that inventory will be depleted over the next few months.
