Looks like Russia is copying the US playbook and employing thermobaric bombs in the Ukraine. These are fuel-air bombs that suck all the oxygen out of an area killing the people, but leaving the buildings still standing.

With much patriotic fervor, the US dropped the “Mother of all Bombs” in Afghanistan in 2017. It was one of the proudest moments in an otherwise decades long, expensive and embarrassing misadventure.
