Spirit Airlines deal with the administration for $500 million rescue package? Spirit Airlines filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection in November 2024, emerged in March 2025, and filed for a second time on August 29, 2025. In 2024, the airline laid off one third of the staff. Even with a $500 million bailout now, analysts at JPMorgan Chase recently noted that if jet fuel remains at the current prices for the remainder of the year, the airline would face an additional $360 million in expenses.
No other airline wants to acquire Spirit:

To keep voters happy w competitive pricing and continuing service in selected markets. Maybe bad finances but good politics. And people keep their jobs.
