Well, wow. I am surprised. This is getting interesting, and maybe a little desperate and frantic.

IMO, the China version is a large test market because there are few other markets where it could be sold.

Change the “specific to China” portions and it becomes a hot seller outside China when it becomes available. Toyota already has a supplier network in the US and elsewhere which can produce for the US and other markets, so it becomes a when, not if EV that will change markets.

What I found interesting is that the $28,000 version of the car with FSD has 27 sensors including 11 HD cameras, 12 ultrasonic radars, 3 mm wave radars, and a lidar. That’s like a Waymo robotaxi.

Which is why it is a test-market run. Toyota is able to actually see, in real time AND over an extended time frame, how the vehicle is doing AND what the fleet is reporting. Toyota will be able to tell if the extra tech is adding real benefits or if they are not that effective in real-world use.
