UBNT, Robert Pera and Basketball

Hi everyone,

On other interests…Has anyone ever heard of Larry Ellison?

On bizarre behavior…has anyone ever heard of George Steinbrenner?

On tweeting, I mean really, on the one hand you have millions of NBA fans and on the other hand you have the people who have even heard of UBNT, which a guess would be not many*.

Just my 3 cents.

B

*Even less that would be interested in following the CEO’s tweets.

I agree. Great interview. I highly recommend anyone who is invested in UBNT to spend an hour-plus listening to this interview. I definitely got insight into how this UBNT founder / major shareholder thinks about running a business.

One thing though: Several people have commented that Elon Musk seems able to participate in three companies, so why not Robert Pera. Well Elon Musk is a genius, who seems to be able to get backing from everyone from Goldman Sachs to BMW and Panasonic. Robert Pera seems to run around making a fool of himself.

…bingo…

…I’ve noticed over the last decade or so, a gradual shift from “company branding” to “CEO branding”…

…it’s subtle, and perhaps only in myself, but in the 80’s and 90’s, the emphasis was move company specific, and the focus on the CEO less apparent…of course there contrary examples, Lee Iacocca, comes to mind…

…but these days, it seems the CEO has become more of the focal point, and with social media at their fingertips, these guys are trying to make household names of themselves, some are really good at it, (Musk) some have tripped up, (Hastings) and some avoid it like the plague (Cook)…seems some simply are making an ass of themselves (Pera)…

…anyone else sense this shift, or is it just me?..

Ball Don’t Lie

Watched the 1:47 video and now I am convinced I need to hold on to my shares.

Exactly Robert. That was a great interview. Thanks for this discussion everyone. Its great having a board where we all can discuss our investments civilly. Amazingly he has only given 4 interviews and this one was the longest. He isn’t a showboat just a very driven individual.

I think it is increasing, I would put the roots of it earlier. Remember “Neutron Jack” Welch? Bill Gates? Lou Gerstner?

Wow thanks for posting this interview - not often you get that long of a conversation and candor from a CEO. I really like the way this guy thinks. I’ve taken a beating in UBNT but have been holding firm - this makes me feel a little better looking at all the red ink
