Wanna take a cruise?

The important aspects of this:

This was a 12 day cruise (not a long one)
The powers that be found enough obvious cases over this time to actually test the passengers (not generally done nowadays as the results would simply pour cold water on passengers’ enjoyment)

Australia is a leading indicator of our winter flu/COVID risks.

We are heading into the holiday season so, if you have personal concerns about contracting COVID, use common sense in choosing your “super-spreader” opportunities (including family gatherings). If you truly desire to acquire a dose of COVID and don’t feel like licking the door handles of your local McDonalds, then take a cruise.

Shirley Trump sings: On the good ship Omicron…

Jeff, do you plan to do a cruise next year?

No guts, no glory

I figure we’ll take an additional booster (legal or not) before we leave.

It’s amazing how none of those 800 people received boosters recently! You would figure that at least some of them received it.

Well, there were 2,300 aboard, so the infected ones made up about 1/3 of the passengers. As most of us are aware, the vax reduces the likelihood of a poor outcome, but is not 100% affective in preventing infection. They also pointed out that the infections tended to be asymptomatic or mild. That said, an ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure (on an expected value basis)

One other way to avoid being infected on a cruise ship is not to be on a cruise ship. Just a thought.

@Goofyhoofy I don’t always agree with you, but I’m in your corner on this one.

I totally disagree! :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye: :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye: :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye:

Seriously it is only Omicron. Watch out more for the flu or common cold. On a cruise it will ruin your vacation. Wait a minute you do not work? What vacation?

Isn’t this where we came in, in early 2020? A plague ship looking for a port that would accept it.

Steve

You cannot get COVID from licking doorknobs at McDonald’s. While there are diseases you can get from doing this, COVID-19 is NOT one of them.

Because COVID-19 is an airborne disease, no amount of hand sanitizer, and no amount of sanitizing surfaces can do anything to stop it. That’s why physical distancing and masking up are still among the bare minimum precautions. I’m also using xylitol nasal spray, and I’ve returned to the junk-food-free and restaurant-food-free bubble.

I have had Omicron…it was a very gentle experience. I think some people kind of enjoy it.

LOL. I also had omicron (I think, my test didn’t specify which strain exactly). But I had odd additional symptoms:

  1. Frequent thirst and urination. I never EVER wake up at night to urinate (or for anything other than a leg cramp every few months). But for the two peak days of COVID, I woke up every 2 hours or so to drink and to urinate.
  2. Ravenous hunger. During the week of COVID (the onset day, the two peak days, and the next 5 days of recovery), I was ravenously hungry. I ate probably 5 meals a day and snacked in between. Gained 7 pounds that week! (then had to work for 2 months to lose them)

You sure you just didn’t just drink to much beer and smoke to much pot? :grinning:

Nah. Don’t drink much, and none at all during covid, and the last time I inhaled pot was at a Moody Blues concert at the Garden State Arts Center in the mid-80s … so many people were smoking in the “bowl” of the amphitheater that all you had to do was breathe regularly and you inhaled plenty of it!

Mark,

My experience was different. It was not a party all night sort of thing like you had.

Seriously you know that moment where you think crap I am coming down with a cold? Well I had that feeling non stop for 8 days. The first couple of days I had a little bit of body aches. That was it. As I keep saying for most people the flu or a cold is worse.

It does not have to test as Omicron it is Omicron.

Holy hell this is an OLD crowd! No wonder there is so much complaining about the new board format.

LOL, no doubt about that. I was on these boards before they even were “boards” per se. On the old MF site, they didn’t even have a start date for me, instead it said “since at least 1997”.
