Sure but that issue existing between human to human ordering. I give the machines a better chance to learn how different people speak better than humans. Imagine being able to just speak your native language in any restaurant and the kiosks automatically understands it… try it with a human.
Great! Although I think they tried that. You shout your order at the clown face at the drive thru, and with the noise of the car, the construction site next door, and the bird poop on the microphone you order a burger and get served a lettuce wedge or something.
Maybe this time this brilliant idea will go better. (Not to pimp for ChickFila, but during busy tines they put actual human beings out in the drive thru lanes with wireless tablets, taking your order via human speech, and when you get up to the window you get your food and go. I can’t figure out how they can manage to staff their restaurants with significantly more people than the cost-cutting guys, keep the floors clean, make the food hot, and keep expanding.
For the record, it is now the 3rd largest chain in the category - unfortunately privately held, or I would be an investor in spite of the CEOs obvious human failings.
If we believe cars will be self driving, certainly the idea that we can custom order a burger with no salt and extra ketchup be speaking to a kiosk is not far fetched.
This is why ordering via app is the best choice of all. It has multiple benefits. First, it is usually very clear, photos are easily added, and apps are designed for customers to select options easily. Second, they are specifically built for “coupons” (and deals), basically in return for allowing the company to track your habits in their app, you get discounts periodically. Third, payment is made trivially easy with the multitude of payment methods available on a smartphone. And finally fourth, apps are so easily updated, and are indeed updated often, to add features, change options, and allow for specials, etc.
This is something I have seen in-n-out burger does too. I rarely eat outside and when I do , I don’t eat at fast food. So no idea.
Technology gets better overtime, and they can show your order and if you don’t like you should be able to make changes in the screen. It is all coming.
They have among the highest revenue per location. That’s how CF does it.
