Quaker City is a small, family owned, non-union shop. There doesn’t seem to be any consensus on how many work there. I see numbers ranging from 10 to 200.
In the summer of 75. I worked at Hayes Albion, a sand cast malleable iron foundry in Albion, MI. Hot, dirty, dangerous work. Hard hat, ear and eye protection required everywhere on the plant floor. It had size, and UAW representation. Judging by the cars, this pic was taken in the 60s. The company’s order book declined, until the point where Ford Motor was subsidizing it to keep it going. Ford finally gave up and found another vendor. This plant was torn down several years ago. The Corning Glass TV picture tube plant in Albion closed in the 70s. Without these plants, the population of Albion declined until the high school no longer had enough students to be viable. Albion High closed, and the students now ride a bus ten miles down the road to Marshall.
