WSJ: IRS can deny charitable deductions

Over $250 unless they have letter stating donor received no benefit (or amount of benefit) before tax filing.

Heads up. Save those papers.

This rule has been in effect for over 20 years, so it shouldn’t be a surprise for anyone.

You may be able to get a duplicate letter from the charity if you are missing one.

Everybody receives those letters. I wonder how many knew its important to keep them on file. This is the sort of thing that might come up in an audit. So keep them for seven years.
